Matteo Pedicini (Naples 1991) has been close to the world of photography ever since childhood, following his father Luciano's activity, which was originally started by his grandfather Rocco in the fifties. During the years of his classical lyceum studies he followed his father in numerous photographic campaigns across Italy, for publications such as Scultura lignea in Basilicata dalla fine del XII alla prima metà del XVI secolo – Wood sculpture in Basilicata from the late 12th to the first half of the 16th century (2004), Il golfo di Napoli – The Bay of Naples (2006), L'armeria reale nella Galleria Beaumont a Torino – The Royal Armoury in the Beaumont Gallery in Turin (2008), Ercolano, colori da una città sepolta – Herculaneum, The Colours of a Buried City (2012) and many shoots for the magazine FMR.
At the same time, ever since he was eleven, he started to develop a great passion for cinema. He became close friends with Alessandro Elia during the years of high school, with whom he made his first short movies. He shot a short movie together with his friend Ivan Ferone in 2013. Focussed on the San Lorenzo quarter of Naples, Conscience and wonder, was presented at the monumental complex of Girolamini and took part in the Ischia Film Festival contest.
He held a photographic exhibition at the Grenoble French Institute in 2015, with the patronage of the French and Tunisian Consulates, entitled Tunus, my way is the only way, born from a trip he had taken some years before in Tunis, shortly after the so called Jasmine Revolution.
He began studying at the Experimental Cinematography Centre of Rome in 2014, attending a course for photography directors with the master Giuseppe Lanci, graduating in 2016. During these years he also established relations with young directors like Daniele Pini, with whom he shot various short movies including L'autista – The Driver, Rocky, and some TV commercials in collaboration with conte.it.
He started shooting the documentary Il viaggio di Nettuno – Neptune's voyage, co-directed with his brother Marco, in September 2016, to tell the story of the restoration and troubled life of the Fountain of Neptune in Naples.
He had his first professional experiences during his years at the Experimental Centre on cinematographic sets, and his encounter with the director of photography Maurizio Calvesi proved to be very important, leading to collaborations for different films.
